Sustainability Spotlight – Sustainable farming – Middle Ground Growers

Sustainable farming at its very best with Middle Ground Growers

At the heart of their vision is a thriving permaculture farm, where humans work in harmony with nature and with each other. Middle Ground Growers (MGG) was founded in 2020 on a small two-acre market garden in Bathampton village. Their mission is to produce sustainable ecologically grown food for local communities, and they began by supplying a whole food shop in Bath and selling directly on the farm. Over time, they expanded to launch a veg box scheme, which now delivers to over 110 families in 2022, up from 25 families in 2020.

Thanks to the support of hundreds of people, MGG raised over £95,000 in 2021, which allowed them to secure a new 16-acre land in Weston. Today, they exclusively farm at Weston Spring Farm and aim to provide food for over 200 families and 12 local outlets.

Their sustainable farming practices prioritise regenerating the soil, promoting diverse ecologies, preserving wildlife, capturing carbon, and growing food sustainably for the Bath community. MGG believes that education is crucial in achieving a sustainable future, and they run seasonal traineeships and workshops in permaculture design and agroforestry to train the next generation of regenerative landworkers.

MGG actively engages in creating a thriving bio-regional web of farms that will bring back a sense of identity and food sovereignty to the Avon valley. They believe in pollinating ideas and working towards creating a resilient future for the local landscape and people. Their journey continues, and they look forward to continuing to grow and evolve sustainably.
