  • 500 grams minced beef lean
  • 2 cloves garlic crushed
  • 1 tsp tomato ketchup
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1 large egg lightly beaten
  • 1 scotch bonnet pepper to taste
  • 1 small onion finely diced
  • 2 spring onions sliced
  • 1 handful basil leaves chopped
  • salt
  • black pepper freshly ground
  • olive oil
  • Combine the mince, garlic, tomato ketchup, mustard, egg, chilli, and onion in a large bowl, using your hands, until the ingredients are well blended
  • Just before cooking, add the spring onions and basil to the mixture and season well
  • Shape the mixture into four patties
  • Brush the burgers with a little oil and cook them on the hot barbecue for 10 minutes, turning halfway, until they are just cooked through and charred
  • Serve the burgers with toasted burger buns and salad
